This is essentially a peek into my week as I haven't been blogging much this week.
Loving three princess and a prince charming.
Loving the interior of Grind coffee shop in Cronulla.
Loving their wall of photos customers have sent in of themselves around the world holding a piece of paper saying I'd rather be at Grind.
Loving smokin hot curry, icecream, fryups and smoked salmon.
Loving the wierd and wonderful.
Loving a collection of coffee pots and samovars.
Loving the sunshine and warmer weather as well as the quick line dry time.
Loving random detailed drawings and boxes full of pencil shavings. What??
Loving a date night last weekend with the hubster.
Loving comparing cameras 4mp but more settings on the camera and 8mp on the phone but oh how accessible and easy to snap away. Of course the ultimate dream is to have a camera for every occasion but hey, for now... this will do! I should get my SLR out from the dusty cupboard. Its definitely vintage now and might be great for some background shots! Do they even sell film any more? My Dad has a whole box of slides up in the attic at 'home' and probably a projector too. It seems like it was eons ago in terms of the world of technology.
Speaking of my Dad, it's his BIRTHDAY today. Love you very much Dad you mad young thing! Happy Happy Birthday to you!
As you can tell, he's got a wicked sense of humour! Those are yoghurt pots on his ears! My top fave tales about Dad are:
1. When he and his brother surrounded his younger sister with a circle of feathers. They knew she was petrified of feathers.
2. When he accidentally shot his brother in the leg with an air rifle, swearing blind he didn't know it was loaded.
3. Him going into hospital and ordering kippers and a poached egg every morning when he knew all that was on offer was toast and cereal.
4. When was given and managed to get a British Green Lined Country bus imported duty free into Pakistan. He had prayed for a transit van with green wheels but got a bus with green wheels.
5. When an old lady asked him for medicine (in Urdu) and he thought she was asking for prayer for her rheumatism. She was healed right then and there and gave him the biggest fright of his life when she jumped to her feet in excitement.
6. When he found a hand grenade in the open drain outside our house, called the police and then had to drive them to the police station with it bouncing across the dashboard of the suzuki van.
7. When he told my brother to pick up all the nails from the yard of a packing company and then forgot that my brother had them in his pocket until he went through the metal detector at the airport.
8. The fact that he has a bb gun and takes pot shots at a target at the end of the garden with my sister-in-law's father, his long-time buddy.
9. His making of an obstacle course for us kids that took us on a balance beam over an open rubbish tip.
10. How he never climbed the Matterhorn but instead, due to bad weather, had to go down to Italy and sit on the beach and watch his friends swim. He hadn't thought they would get rained off but they had come prepared. He swears he's hated pasta ever since.
11. How he made his own kayaks from a mould someone gave him and then his own aluminium arrows for the bows someone else gave him.
12. How he has a foldable bike that he rides 11km to work whenever he can despite having had arthritis and a hip replacement.
13. How he found GBP2 on the road and thought he would make it grow. It currently has turned into about GBP15 but he is aiming high.
13. How he ate some fake chocolates that my sister had made out of clay and painted with acrylic and didn't even notice anything odd apart from they tasted a bit funny. My sister Lucy had put them out on a plate with a note saying Look what I made you Dad! He was mad as fire when he found out what it was. That still makes me laugh.
14. How he still laughs as he remembers the Afghani man welcoming him into their home, apologizing for the lack of gunfire to greet them saying, what can you do in rented accommodation!
Love you much Dad, you're the best Dad a girl could ask for! Hope you have a wonderful birthday. When you decide what you want for your birthday, will you tell me??

Love it! Yes, they do sell film, but it's at a premium now! I broke my digital camera and used my old SLR for a bit b/c I found a role of film in the case. So fun and wonderful, but expensive to develop now!
ReplyDeletewow, that's amazing! I'm not sure I could go back to film, I make so many mistakes I end up having to delete!!
DeleteOh that is such a great list - what a great Dad you have...with his amazing funny ways, what will you get him for his Birthday!
ReplyDeleteLove that you have had a great week - Buy the way...what is with that photo of the baby doll??
Happy Birthday sent to your Dad :)
Hahaha - your Dad sounds so cool!!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing. Was your Dad a missionary then? English? I met Jonathan Addleton who wrote a book about his time in Murree called "Some Far Distant Place." Know him?
ReplyDeleteLittle Gumnut thank you for the memories, I definitely remember some of the stories behind those memories - the bus, kayaks, arrows, etc :)
